Age of Conan Beta Day 1

So I decided even though I had work to get done, I had to try it on day 1 of open beta. It is amazing. Yes it is beta atm so there are bugs like crashing but that’s what you get for beta. So anyways here are pictures I took the rest will be linked to into my flickr page! By the way I played a Tempest of Set today and all of these pictures are of him.

MacFocus Magazine

For those of you who enjoy Macs you might enjoy the free online magazine MacFocus it keeps you up to date on some of the most important Apple news, and is actually run by a group of teenagers. The Gray Screen of Death: Apparently the Apple gods don’t want me to use Windows, because every time I try to run the BootCamp Utility on my MacBook I get a kernel panic.

Star Trek “NCC-1701″ Movie Viral Site

The viral site is www.ncc-1701.com this takes a little bit of getting used to before you can start to get what is happening on this site.

First, you will see 4 camera screens however only 3 are giving you some kind of images.

To make these images in focus, you must edit the numbers by pushing the small boxes until you get 100%. Once you do this you will see clear videos of pretty much welding.

Supposedly after a certain amount of time one can see a hallway appear on the camera not appearing to be working.

New Elements!

I just found out the scientific community has released very secret information on 2 new and quite amazing elements Wo and Xy! It is a very exciting day indeed to be able to share this top secret info with you all!

Without further ado…the elements:

Element Name: WOMAN

Symbol: Wo

Atomic Weight: Don’t even go there!!

Physical Properties: Generally round in form. Boils at nothing and may freeze at any time. Melts whenever treated properly. Very bitter if not used well.

Chemical Properties: Very active. Highly unstable. Possesses strong affinity to gold, silver, platinum, and precious stones. Violent when left alone. Able to absorb great amounts of exotic food. Turns slightly green when placed next to a better specimen.

Usage: Highly ornamental. An extremely good catalyst for dispersion of wealth. Probably the most powerful income reducing agent known.

Caution: Highly explosive in inexperienced hands.

Element Name: MAN

Symbol: Xy

Atomic Weight: 180 +/- 50

Physical Properties: Fairly dense and sometimes flaky. Difficult to find pure sample.

Chemical Properties: Attempts to bond with Wo any chance it can get. Also tends to form strong bonds with itself. Becomes explosive when mixed with Kd (element : child) for prolonged period of time. Neutralize by saturating with alcohol.

Usage: None known. Possibly good methane source. Good samples are able to produce large quantities on command.

Caution: In the absence of Wo, this element rapidly decomposes and begins to smell.

Firefox Introduces New Rickroll Protection

The developers of Firefox, a web browser created by the Mozilla Foundation, have decided to once again rescue the masses from the horrors of the Internet. Having produced top-notch phishing protection, malware identification and other security features unmatched by their competitors they are now introducing the “Rickroll Detection Filter.”

This new filtering protection will pre-screen links when the page renders and determine the campiness of the content. The new technology is called “Quash Unreasonable Electronic Entertainment Recognition” or QUEER. It will start being tested in the fifth beta of version three of their flagship product.

Avid gamer Ronald Parks was Rickrolled just hours before attending a LAN party to play Halo. “I started humming the tune while fragging the other team. They all stopped playing because they were laughing so hard. It was embarrassing. They all think I’m gay now,” says Ronald.

“This new scheme will protect the many users who are now suffering, sometimes for days, with catchy yet awful songs and images in their head,” says Hans Freidenhaufer, a top developer at the Mozilla Foundation. He continues, “The worst part is when you are caught humming these tunes in your cubicle when someone walks by. The QUEER filter will keep you from having to wear that old Metallica t-shirt to work for the next three days to restore your respectability.”

The filtering mechanism will be extensible with plug-ins to catch threats that may get past the default engine. The first of these extensions, the “LoLCat Image Malady Protection” or LIMP, has the ability to still render pages where LolCats have been found with the offending images removed.

When asked if the QUEER filter would protect against things like the Goatse website, Mr. Freidenhaufer responded, “While the imagery depicted there is rather horrific, the use of this particular attack is usually directed at an individual not to the public at large. Also, it is not used lightly. If you have pointed someone to that page, they probably deserved it.”

Asymetrical Bandwidth

I got a new router today, the Linksys WRT-150N to replace my old D-Link one, which died for the second time within 4 months of the original purchase. I decided to install the custom firmware DD-WRT onto it and the process went very smoothly. I wanted to make sure that my connection was going to be as fast as my old router so I ran the SpeakEasy Speed Test. Here are the results I got:

The results were almost identical to my old router. But honestly, I think Cox (my ISP) seriously needs to do something about the fact that my connection totally favors my download speed. I wouldn’t mind giving up 300kbs from my download speed to my upload speed! Come on Cox! There’s a serious problem when my upload speed accounts for less than 2.5% of my total bandwidth.
